Crash closes motorway carriageway
A section of the motorway between Edinburgh and Glasgow has been closed because of an accident.
Police Scotland said the incident, which involved a single vehicle, happened on the westbound carriageway of the M8, between junctions 2 and 3, shortly before 16:00.
It is understood a man was injured in the crash.
Motorists were told to expect lengthy delays, with the carriageway likely to be closed for some time.
The congestion was also affecting the Edinburgh city by-pass and Hermiston Gait junction.
Diversions were being put in place, but drivers were urged to take an alternative route where possible.
Police said traffic heading westbound could come off the M8 at junction 2 and take the slip road to the M9, joining the A89 at the Newbridge Roundabout towards Livingston, where it can then re-join the M8 at junction 3.
