A man has been detained in connection with the death of a 17-year-old in Fife.

It is understood the man was stabbed on Simon Crescent in Methilhill.

Police were called to the incident at 02:10 and cordons were set up.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Every effort will be made to minimise the disruption caused, but the residents of Simon Crescent and the surrounding area are asked to be patient while inquires are under way."

Insp James Meek, of Police Scotland, said: "At this time I would like to provide reassurance that this is an isolated incident, and there is no wider risk to the public.

"There is an increased police presence in the area as we carry out our inquiries, and officers are carrying out additional patrols in order to provide reassurance to local residents."
