Police are urging dog owners to keep their pets under control after several incidents of members of the public and sheep being attacked in Fife.

Over the last few weeks, officers have received a number of complaints from people and the farming community.

Sgt Neil Mackenzie, of Police Scotland, said: "We have dealt with serious incidents recently when either sheep or other dog walkers have been attacked.

"On one occasion an elderly man sustained painful injuries by a dog."

"Inquiries are ongoing in respect of these incidents and I would like to thank the members of the public who have already contacted us with information.

"We are at the start of the lambing season and it is vital that dog owners exercise responsibility in controlling their pets.

"We will rigorously purse those who do not and will use all means at our disposal to keep people and livestock safe."
