Attacker bites man's ear at bus stop in Newington Road in Edinburgh
An attacker who punched a man at a bus stop in Edinburgh before biting his ear is being sought by police.
The man was walking towards town and had stopped at the bus stop near 13 Newington Road on the east pavement just before 19:00 on Tuesday.
He was approached by the attacker who, following an argument, punched the complainer and bit down on his ear.
A passerby intervened and the attacker headed north and is thought to have turned onto East Preston Street.
The attacker is white, in his early 30s, of stocky build, 5ft 10ins, clean shaven, with short black hair that was longer on top.
He has an Edinburgh accent, and was wearing a dark blue sleeveless body warmer with a long sleeve light green top underneath.
Det Con Kevin Tait, of Police Scotland, said: "We are keen to trace any witnesses to this serious assault, particularly the passerby who intervened.
"If anyone was in the area at the time or recognises the description of the suspect then they are asked to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers in confidence on 0800 555 111."
