Police make 16 arrests over Edinburgh housebreakings

Sixteen people have been charged with housebreaking offences in Edinburgh.

The males, all aged between 13 and 36, have been reported for more than 200 thefts after being arrested over the past seven days.

They have all either appeared in court during the week or are currently subject of a report to the procurator fiscal.

The men were arrested as part of Police Scotland's Operation RAC, which started in December.

Det Insp John Kavanagh, from Police Scotland, said: "This has been another excellent week of housebreaking detections across Edinburgh, with 16 people now subject to legal proceedings as part of Operation RAC.

A further 11 people have also been charged with housebreaking offences in West Lothian as part of Operation RAC since 2 February.
