Woman found unconscious in Edinburgh garden dies

A woman has died after being found lying unconscious in an Edinburgh garden.

The 48-year-old was found by a member of the public in Balfron Loan at 07:30. Ambulance crews were called, but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Scotland said it was treating the woman's death as unexplained and launched an investigation.

Officers have sealed off the street in the Drum Brae area of the city. Police have appealed for witnesses.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Police in Edinburgh responded to an address in Balfron Loan at around 07:30 on Thursday 13th February after a woman was found lying unconscious within a garden.

"She was subsequently pronounced dead by ambulance staff before being taken to hospital.

"Inquiries into the full circumstances surrounding this incident are ongoing and anyone who can assist officers with their investigation is asked to come forward immediately.

"The woman's death is being treated as unexplained at this time."
