Witness plea after suspicious fire in Sighthill

Police in Edinburgh have appealed for witnesses following a suspicious fire in Sighthill.

Residents in Calder Gardens were woken at about 04:00 after a front door had been set alight.

All escaped uninjured however police said this could have had more serious consequences had the flames spread before the occupants woke up.

They have urged anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious to come forward.

Det Insp Rory Hamilton, of Police Scotland, said: "Our inquiries into the circumstances surrounding this incident are ongoing. However, we are satisfied that the fire was started deliberately.

"Fortunately, no-one from inside the house suffered any injury. However, this could have had far more serious consequences had the flames spread prior to the occupants waking.

"Anyone who was in Calder Gardens on Tuesday morning and remembers seeing anything suspicious, or who has information relevant to this investigation is asked to contact police immediately."
