Body found in missing Fife man search

A body has been found on a beach in Fife during the search for a missing 85-year-old man.

The body was discovered on the beach in the Temple area of Lower Largo by the coastguard at about 04:00.

Police said the identity had not yet been established and the death was being treated as "unexplained".

However, officers have notified the family of Thomas Semple, who was reported missing from his home in Lundin Links on Thursday afternoon.

Insp Jim Davenport said: "We can confirm that an unidentified body has been found and that the inquiry is at a very early stage.

"The death is currently being treated as unexplained, pending the results of a post-mortem examination.

"We will continue to keep the family of Thomas Semple updated with the progress of this enquiry."
