High wind closes Edinburgh Christmas rides

Star Flyer The 200ft (60m) Star Flyer in St Andrew Square is closed

Two Christmas carnival rides in Edinburgh have been shut due to high winds.

The 200ft (60m) Star Flyer in St Andrew Square and the Big Wheel in Princes Street Gardens have been closed for health and safety reasons.

They had both been due to be open until 22:00 on Christmas Eve.

It is understood the rides may remain closed for the rest of the day, however officials said they would reopen if the weather improved.

The Christmas market remains open.
