A man has appeared in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a crash that killed a teenager.

Kristoffer Brister, 19, died when the Peugeot 106 in which he was a passenger hit a wall in Leven, Fife, at about 01:45 on Saturday.

Lee Hamilton, 22, of Methil in Fife, appeared on petition at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court on Monday.

He was also charged with causing death by driving with no licence and no insurance.

Mr Hamilton faced a further charge of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

He made no plea or declaration and was released on bail. The case was continued for further examination.

Mr Brister died at the scene in the town's Barron Street.

His family said he was a special person to everyone who knew him.

His grandmother Elizabeth McBay said: "Kris was a popular and well-liked young man.

"We loved him dearly. He always had time for his family and friends and his loss is very hard for us all to take.

"Many people have told us how special Kris was to them and have paid their respects, but we would now ask to be left to grieve in peace."
