Woman dies in West Lothian house fire

An investigation has been launched after a woman was killed in a fire in her home in West Lothian.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service personnel were called out to the "serious fire" in Torphichen just after 19:30 on Tuesday.

Fire crews based in Bathgate and Linlithgow arrived on the scene "within minutes".

Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property but the woman inside the building had died.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "The tragic loss of life must always bring home the importance of working together to prevent fires and raise awareness of how to be safer from the risk of fire.

"If you or someone you know may be at risk please get in touch and arrange a free home fire safety visit with local firefighters."
