An investigation has been launched after a man died following a fire at his Edinburgh home.

The 37-year-old was rescued by firefighters from a flat in Viewcraig Gardens on Wednesday at about 17:10 and taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

The man later died. The fire is being treated as unexplained and the police are appealing for witnesses.

At least 15 firefighters tackled the blaze using a turntable ladder and breathing apparatus.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "The fire is currently being treated as unexplained and police and fire service are continuing with their inquiries."
