Cowgate attack victim, 30, suffers serious head injury

Police have appealed for witnesses after a 30-year-old man was attacked in Edinburgh city centre at the weekend.
They are trying to trace a number of suspects, including a woman, following the serious assault.
The incident happened in Guthrie Street at about 03.20 on Saturday near the junction with the Cowgate.
The victim was involved in an altercation involving a number of men and women.
He was taken by ambulance to the Western General Hospital, where he is in a stable condition.
Police have now appealed for witnesses and issued a description of a number of suspects involved in the incident.
They include two men and a woman, all in their early 20s.
The woman was described as being white, 5ft 5in tall, of large build, with short, brown hair in a short back and sides style, and wearing blue baggy jeans and a dark top with an orange or pink cardigan.
Both men were described as white and 5ft 10in to 6ft tall, of slim to medium build, and wearing T-shirt and shorts.
The area was busy at the time and it is thought a number of people witnessed the assault.
