Elderly woman knocked down on city road at Liberton Brae

An elderly woman is being treated in hospital after she was knocked down by a car on an Edinburgh road.

The woman has been taken to Edinburgh Royal infirmary following the accident just before 15:00 at Liberton Brae opposite the Bank of Scotland.

The Scottish Ambulance Service said she was "conscious and breathing". Road diversions are in place.

It is understood a passer-by administered First Aid until the emergency Services arrived.

The woman was knocked down by a maroon Volvo estate being driven by an elderly man.

Witnesses said they saw the woman being catapulted into the air before somersaulting and landing on the road.
