A body found on Edinburgh's Corstorphine Hill is female, police have confirmed.

A dog walker found the remains in what appeared to be a shallow grave at 17:30 on Thursday.

The police also confirmed they were not the remains of Suzanne Pilley, who went missing from her Edinburgh home two years ago.

Det Ch Insp Keith Hardie, of Police Scotland, said: "Good progress was made over the weekend."

He added: "The remains have been fully excavated and the detailed examination of the site will continue over the next few days.

"Our focus is now on trying to identify the victim and then determine the circumstances surrounding her death."
