Police in Midlothian are investigating after several sheep were killed in Penicuik.

The incident happened between 17:00 on Tuesday and 07:00 on Wednesday in a field at Auchencorth Farm.

About 20 sheep and lambs were attacked by a dog, resulting in their death. Officers are now urging witnesses to come forward.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "The death of these sheep and lambs has a financial impact upon the farmer."

He added: "However, the manner in which they have died is also very distressing.

"We would urge any members of the public who may have seen anything suspicious overnight, or who may have relevant information, to contact Police Scotland immediately."
