OAP dies and girl hurt in separate Lothian accidents

Palmerston Place A woman in her 70s, thought to be a foreign tourist, was hit by a car in Edinburgh's Palmerston Place

A pensioner was killed and a seven-year-old girl seriously injured in two separate accidents in the Lothians.

The woman, named by police as 71-year-old Galina Tuyakova from Moscow, was hit by a car in Edinburgh's Palmerston Place at about 20:30 on Thursday.

Earlier, at about 17:00, a seven-year-old girl was hit by a 4x4 vehicle in Greenhall Road, Gorebridge.

She received serious injuries and is being treated at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

Lothian and Borders Police said the fatal accident involved a small, van-type vehicle. The woman had been with a female companion, also in her 70s.

The force has appealed for witnesses to both accidents.
