Police officers hurt in collision after attending another crash

Two officers have been injured after their police car was hit by a vehicle while they were at the scene of another crash.

The police had been called to the incident on the eastbound carriageway of the A71 on the outskirts of Edinburgh at 06:30.

A car had skidded off the road and into a wall one mile west of Dalmahoy Hotel.

Another car collided with the back of the police vehicle after officers had parked behind the crashed car.

The officers were taken to St John's Hospital for treatment and the road was closed for two hours for a police investigation.

A police spokesman said: "Lothian and Borders Police responded to a road collision on the eastbound carriageway of the A71 at around 6:30 on Thursday after a car left the road and struck the wall.

"While in attendance, a police vehicle was struck by another car, causing injury to the two officers."
