Man dies after being hit by lorry on Edinburgh bypass

A man has died after being hit by a lorry on the Edinburgh bypass late on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old pedestrian was hit by the Mercedes HGV on the westbound carriageway of the A720 near Lothianburn Junction at 23:40.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said he suffered head injuries and died at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved. Part of the road was closed for four hours and police have appealed for witnesses.
