Man dies in Restalrig Road flats fire in Edinburgh

A 37-year-old man has died following a fire at a block of flats in Edinburgh.

A 64-year-old man was taken to hospital, suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke, following the blaze in Restalrig Road just before 04:00.

The 37-year-old was pronounced dead shortly after being rescued by firefighters.

An investigation is under way to establish the cause of the fire. It is not thought to be suspicious.

A Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "The fire was reported by a passing police officer who spotted smoke coming from the second-floor flat."
