Disused Edinburgh church 'destroyed' by fire
Firefighters tackled the blaze at the disused church in Edinburgh
An investigation is under way after a disused church in Edinburgh was "completely destroyed" by a fire.
Police said the cause of the fire at the church on Stanley Place in the Abbeyhill area had yet to be established.
The building, which had been used as a storage facility, was engulfed by flames at about 17:15 on Monday.
About 40 firefighters tackled the fire which caused disruption to rush-hour traffic in the east of Edinburgh.
The former church sustained "significant structural damage" but no-one was injured.
A police spokesman said: "Due to the extensive damage the church has suffered, we have yet to establish the cause of the fire and are keen to hear from anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious in the area early yesterday evening.
"Similarly anyone with any other information that can assist with our investigation is asked to contact police immediately."
