The body of a man has been found in an Edinburgh loch during a police search for a missing student.

Sanjay Dhital, 24, was last seen leaving his flat in Elm Row on Boxing Day and has not contacted his friends or family since then.

Earlier this month Sanjay's family, who live in Kathmandu, Nepal, said they were concerned for his safety.

A man's body was recovered from St Margaret's Loch in Holyrood Park on Sunday.

The Lothian and Borders Police search was assisted by Borders Search and Rescue Team, Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team and Borders Underwater Search Team.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman confirmed that officers searching for Mr Dhital had recovered a man's body from the loch.

"Inquiries are ongoing to identity the male and the family of Sanjay Dhital will be fully updated with the progress of this investigation," he added.
