Man in court over crash which killed Steff Sakatiuk
A man has appeared in court in connection with a fatal crash in West Lothian on New Year's Day.
Richard Whiteford, 38, appeared on petition at Livingston Sheriff Court on Monday.
He was remanded in custody charged with causing the death of his best friend Steff Sakatiuk, 34.
Mr Whiteford, of Fauldhouse, West Lothian, made no plea or declaration during the private hearing before Sheriff Brian Adair.
The most serious charge he faces is of causing Mr Sakatiuk's death by dangerous driving.
He has also been charged with the relatively new offence of causing death while driving while disqualified and without insurance.
He is further accused of attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Mr Whiteford was arrested by police after a silver Vauxhall Signum estate left the the B7015 Sheephousehill Road, near Fauldhouse, and hit a tree.
Mr Sakatiuk, who was a front-seat passenger, died at the scene.
