A 34-year-old man has died after the car he was in left the road and struck a tree.

Police have said they are looking for the driver of the car, who had left the scene by the time emergency services arrived.

The man who died was the front seat passenger in a silver Vauxhall Signum when it crashed.

It was on the B7015 Sheephousehill Road, on the outskirts of Fauldhouse, West Lothian.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident, which happened at 19:45 on New Year's Day.

Lothian and Borders Police appealed for anyone who may have seen the car before the crash to contact them.

It is thought the vehicle was heading westwards before it crashed about 100m east of Sheephousehill Road's junction with Breichwater Place.
