Car crashes into tenement basement in Chester Street, Edinburgh

A car crashed into the basement of a tenement building after an accident on Boxing Day in Edinburgh.

Police said the car, which was being driven by a 21-year-old woman, ended up in the basement in Chester Street after an incident which also involved a taxi.

The taxi driver, a man in his 60s, received treatment for leg injuries.

He and the car driver were taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, as were two passengers in the taxi - a 40-year-old woman and an 11-year-old girl.

A spokeswoman for Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said the accident took place at 22:00 on Wednesday.

"The car ended up in the basement of a tenement building.

"Firefighters assisted with four casualties before ambulance crews arrived," she said.
