Edinburgh Council property: Criminal proceedings being considered

A police investigation into corruption at Edinburgh City Council's property care department could result in proceedings against 17 people.

Prosecutors have received a report which includes allegations of criminal conduct.

The department is responsible for repairs to council owned properties in the capital.

The Crown Office is now considering whether it will pursue criminal proceedings.

In June, it was revealed 15 people had been arrested and charged with offences including fraud and money laundering, but it has now emerged two further people have been identified by the inquiry.

A Crown Office spokesman said: "Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service's Serious and Organised Crime Division has received a report from Lothian and Borders Police alleging criminal conduct by 17 individuals in relation to the work of the property care services department of the City of Edinburgh Council.

"The report is being given detailed consideration and a decision as to whether criminal proceedings are to be raised will be made in due course."
