Hawkhill Close death: Police confirm murder victim was shot
The man's body was found inside a block of flats at Hawkhill Close
Police investigating a murder in the Leith area of Edinburgh have now confirmed the victim was shot.
Officers were called to a block of flats in Hawkhill Close at 20:15 on Tuesday, where they discovered the body of a man inside a flat.
A post-mortem examination carried out earlier confirmed the victim suffered a fatal gunshot wound to his abdomen.
Detectives said they were still not in a position to release the identity of the victim.
A team of about 30 detectives are working on the case and were said to be "following a number of lines of inquiry".
A cordon remains in place around the building while forensic and other examinations are carried out at the scene.
Supt Matt Richards, of Lothian and Borders Police, said: "Inquiries are continuing at the scene, and I want to thank residents and local people for their patience while we remain in the area.
"In addition I want to provide a reassurance that we believe this to be an isolated incident, with no risk to anyone else in the area or indeed, to the public at large.
"In terms of the investigation, we have a substantial number of detectives working on the case, supported by specialist officers.
"We continue to appeal to anyone who has any information in relation to the murder to contact Lothian and Borders Police, or Crimestoppers, where information can be passed anonymously."
