The police are calling for witnesses who saw a bus knock down a pedestrian in Edinburgh.

A 69-year-old man was hit as the Lothian Buses Airlink service turned right onto the Western Approach Road from Lothian Road.

The incident happened at 11:15 on Tuesday.

The man suffered a head injury, and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, where he is still being treated.

Insp Richard Latto, of Lothian and Borders Police, said: "An investigation is under way to establish exactly what happened, and inquiries are at an early stage.

"We know there were a lot of people on foot and in cars in the Lothian Road area yesterday morning, so we would ask anyone who may have not yet spoken to police to contact us."
