Gun fired at house window in Midlothian

Witnesses are being sought after a gun was fired at the window of a house in Midlothian.

The incident is believed to have happened in the early hours of Wednesday at a house in Whitehill Grove, Woodburn.

The owner returned home to find a window had been damaged.

Lothian and Borders Police said its officers wanted to hear from anyone who remembers seeing any suspicious activity in the area.

Insp Michelle Ritchie said: "The occupant was not at home during this incident.

"Nevertheless, it was an unsettling experience for him to come home and discover his property had been targeted with a firearm.

"High-visibility patrols are currently being deployed in the Woodburn area to offer reassurance to the community and speak with local residents who may have information that can help with our investigation into this incident.

"The use of firearms remains incredibly rare in Midlothian and a thorough investigation is now under way to determine the full circumstances surrounding this discharge.

"Anyone who can assist us in tracing those responsible is asked to contact police immediately."
