Two female pedestrians have died after being knocked down by a car in Fife.

Abby Hucknall, 18, and Jane MacDonald, 37, both from Kirkcaldy, were hit by a Land Rover on the B981, Dunnikier Way, near Asda, at 18:30 on Tuesday.

The male driver of the Land Rover was uninjured. The road was closed while an investigation was carried out.

It is thought the women were from the Scottish Gypsy Traveller community. Ms Hucknall's family said they had been devastated by their "tragic loss".

The statement said: "She was a very bubbly, caring and beautiful girl, a much loved daughter, sister and grand daughter who will be sorely missed by all who knew her".

Anyone who witnessed the incident has been asked to contact Fife Constabulary.
