Five people rescued from burning flats in Edinburgh

Five people have been rescued from a burning building in Edinburgh after a fire started in a ground-floor flat.

The blaze broke out just after 02:30 in South Sloan Street and left the three-storey block "heavily smoke logged".

Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service said the fire was "well alight" when crews arrived.

Two residents were taken to the city's Royal Infirmary to be treated for smoke inhalation, while the others were checked over at the scene.
