Man, 79, assaulted in Edinburgh street

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 79-year-old man was assaulted by three men in an "unprovoked" attack on an Edinburgh street.

The incident happened in Easter Road as the victim was walking home at 20:45 on Friday.

He was punched on the body and struck on the head several times before his assailants made off from the area.

Police said he suffered minor facial injuries and was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The suspects are all described as white, and wearing dark clothing.

Two were about 5ft 7ins tall, while the other was about 5ft tall.

A Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: "This was an unprovoked assault on an elderly male, which resulted in him sustaining some painful injuries to his face.

"Anyone who was in or around Easter Road and witnessed the attack or who can help us identify those responsible is asked to contact police immediately."
