A man has been seriously injured in a hit-and-run in the Liberton area of Edinburgh.

The 21-year-old was crossing Kirk Brae just before 02:00, after getting out of a taxi, when he was hit by another vehicle which did not stop.

Police said that shortly afterwards, another taxi driver found the young man lying on the road.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary before being transferred to the city's Western General Hospital.

Insp Keith Denholm, from Lothian and Borders Police, said: "This pedestrian is suffering from possibly life-changing injuries.

"He was crossing Kirk Brae from west to east when he was hit by a vehicle between 01.50 and 02:00 today.

"Anyone who was in the area or who knows someone who was driving on Kirk Brae at that time is asked to get in touch."
