The owners of the Hall's of Broxburn meat plant in West Lothian have confirmed they have received two offers for the Hall's of Broxburn site.

Dutch company Vion had extended the deadline for bidders to buy the plant until 12:00 on Friday.

Now the company is reviewing the offers "in more detail". It said it would make a formal announcement next week.

The factory employs 1,700 people. Workers have already begun talks on redundancy terms.

Vion has previously said it would implement phased closure plans at the plant if a buyer was not found.

A spokesman for Vion said: "We can confirm that we received two offers for the Hall's site prior to today's deadline.

"In addition, one note of interest in the site was withdrawn.

"At this stage, due to commercial confidentiality, we are unable to confirm their identity or the details of the bids.

"Our focus over the coming weekend will be on reviewing the offers which we have received in more detail.

"Our intention is to complete this process as quickly as possible with a view to making a formal announcement at the beginning of next week."
