Son stabbed before father's death in West Lothian

The son of a frail 67-year-old man murdered in West Lothian was stabbed a day before his father was found dead.

The body of Robert Simpson was discovered in Mayfield Drive, Armadale, just after 21:00 on Saturday.

Police have now confirmed his son Ross, 31, was treated in hospital after being attacked in Polbeth on Friday.

Jamie Anderson, 24, and Stewart Thomson, 28, both from West Calder, appeared at Livingston Sheriff Court charged with assault on Monday.

They both made no plea or declaration. Mr Anderson was remanded in custody and Mr Thomson was released on bail.

Mr Anderson is next due to appear in court on Tuesday. No date has been set yet for Mr Thomson.

Detectives, who are still investigating the murder of Robert Simpson - also known as Ronnie, want anyone who may have seen him after 3 October to get in touch immediately.
