Pedestrian dies after being hit by car in Edinburgh

A 19-year-old pedestrian has died almost a week after sustaining serious head injuries when he was hit by a car.

Akim Merchant from California, in the US, was hit by a blue Volkswagen Passat in Nicolson Square, Edinburgh, at 16:45 on Saturday 29 September.

He died on Friday evening. A 20-year-old female who was also hit by the car suffered minor injurie.

The driver of the Passat stopped at the scene and continues to help police with their inquiries.
