An Edinburgh primary school has been evacuated following a gas leak.

Colinton Primary School's 150 pupils have been evacuated to Oxgangs Primary School as a precaution.

The incident happened at 11:00 and parents were asked to pick their children up at lunchtime from Oxgangs Primary School.

An Edinburgh City Council spokeswoman pointed out that primary school pupils finish between 12.05 and 12:25 on a Friday in the capital.

She said: "Following a gas leak at Colinton Primary School this morning, the building was temporarily evacuated as a precaution.

"Pupils were moved a short distance to Oxgangs Primary School where they were collected as normal by their parents and carers.

"Scottish Gas Networks have confirmed that the site is now safe and the school will reopen as normal on Monday.

"We understand the leak was caused by minor works to a footpath outside the school."
