Unlicensed city tattooist arrested in Edinburgh

Tattoo (generic) Unhygienic tattoo equipment has a risk of infection such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV

A man has been arrested for carrying out tattoo work without the proper qualifications and licences in Edinburgh.

The 28-year-old's arrest has prompted NHS Lothian to put out a warning about the dangers of using unlicensed tattooists.

NHS Lothian said unhygienic tattoo equipment has a risk of infection such as Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV.

The man was arrested on Friday and is due to appear in court at a later date.

Dr Duncan McCormick, NHS Lothian's consultant in public health medicine, said: "Unhygienic tattoo equipment carries a risk of infection of blood-borne viruses including Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV.

"We would advise anyone who has recently had a tattoo that was not from a licensed tattoo parlour to contact NHS Lothian."
