A man has died after he was hit by a lorry on the Edinburgh city bypass.

It happened about half a mile east of the Sheriffhall roundabout at 23:40 on Friday.

Lothian and Borders Police said a lorry was involved in a collision with a man, aged in his 30s, on the carriageway.

He was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary but died a short time later. The driver of the lorry was not injured. Police appealed for witnesses.

A force spokesman said: "Anyone who was driving on the bypass last night who either witnessed the incident or who saw the man prior to the collision should contact police."
