Mother in plea over missing Edinburgh woman Laura Gorrie

The mother of a woman who has been missing from her home in Edinburgh for almost a month has appealed for information to help trace her.

Laura Gorrie, 30, has not been in touch with friends or family since 22 May when she was seen getting on a train to Blackpool at Glasgow Central Station.

She is diabetic and police said concern for her welfare was growing the longer she went without medication.

Her mother Patricia Maguire said: "The family just wants Laura to come home."

She added: "We're all really worried about her.

"Laura, please just phone us, or one of your friends, and let us know you're ok."

The 30-year-old was last seen trying to book into a hotel in Blackpool on 11 June.

She is described as 5ft 8in tall, heavily built, with long brown hair and wears glasses.

When she was last seen she was wearing blue jeans, a red jacket, black trainers with white soles and was carrying a Burberry-style bag.

Det Sgt Willie Falconer from Lothian and Borders Police said: "The aim of our inquiry is to make sure Laura is safe and well - she's not in any trouble, we're just concerned she may be ill if she has gone without medication for four weeks.

"We still think she may be in the Blackpool area so we would ask people down there to stay vigilant, and contact police if you think you have seen her."
