Motorists were warned to expect long delays after a lorry spilled hydraulic fluid on the Forth Road Bridge.
Traffic heading north was restricted to a single lane and delays built up throughout the rush hour period.
The spill covered most of the length of the inside lane of the bridge's northbound carriageway.
The incident happened at 13:40 and a major clean-up was launched. By 20:10, police reported the carriageway re-opened.
