Kingdom Bakers staff face redundancy

Kingdom Bakers The Kirkcaldy-based firm has been experiencing cash flow problems

A total of 135 bakery workers are facing redundancy with the collapse of Kingdom Bakers in Fife.

Severe cash flow problems and pressure from creditors have forced directors at the firm to appoint receivers.

They are now seeking a buyer for the assets. Kingdom Bakers was founded 28 years ago.

It had plants in Kirkcaldy and Dysart, a turnover of £8m per year, and supplied bread, cakes and pancakes to leading supermarkets.

Recent attempts by the management to attract fresh investment proved unsuccessful.

Joint receiver Tom MacLennan, from RSM Tenon, said: "Kingdom Bakers is a well-known business in the bakery trade, and the receivership presents an excellent opportunity for a competitor or entrepreneur to acquire the assets and goodwill, including extensive production facilities.

"I would urge any interested parties to contact RSM Tenon immediately."
