Edinburgh Council calls for severe weather feedback

The Army was drafted in to help clear snow in Edinburgh last winter

Residents in Edinburgh are to have their say on how to better prepare the city for winter weather.

Edinburgh City Council has launched an online and street survey about how best to keep the capital moving in the snow.

It is thought to be the first consultation of its kind in the UK. Last winter Edinburgh experienced the worst blizzards for decades.

Hundreds of tonnes of salt were used on roads and pavements. Offenders and the Army were brought in to clear routes.

The council said it wants to know what it did well and how services could be improved in the extreme weather.

Robert Aldridge, Edinburgh City Council's environmental leader, said: "This is an ambitious public consultation and we hope to get views and suggestions from a wide range of people on how we can organise our services during times of extreme weather in the future."
