Detectives investigating the discovery of a skeleton in woods in Cumbria last month have confirmed it was the remains of a missing Edinburgh woman.

Elizabeth Brown, from Gorgie, was last seen getting off a number three Lothian Bus in Edinburgh's Nicolson Street at the end of May 2010.

Cumbria Constabulary said the body was identified using dental records.

Mrs Brown, known to her family as Betty, was 55 years old when she was reported missing on 1 June 2010.

Her family and the coroner have been informed.

The skeleton was found in the Gaitle Bridge area of the Longtown to Gretna Road at about 1420 GMT on 18 January.
