Almost £1m has been donated by business figures to Edinburgh Napier University's new Sighthill campus.

The redeveloped campus will become the new home of the Faculty of Health, Life and Social Sciences.

It will include a five-storey library, a state-of-the-art sports facility and 25 specialised teaching rooms.

Staff will move into the facility from October 2010 onwards and students will begin studying at the campus from January 2011.

Donations have been received from Roger and Jean Miller, former Ethicon Ltd managing director, Dr Lindsay Stewart, the Barr Charitable Trust and Thomas Tunnock Ltd.

Dr Peter Easy, the university's acting principal, said: "Given the current economic climate, we are especially delighted that these individuals and companies are still recognising the value in investing in education and supporting our future generations."
