Scottish independence: Salmond's 'democratic sensation'

First Minister Alex Salmond has said the referendum on Scottish independence is a "democratic sensation".

In an interview with BBC political editor Nick Robinson, Mr Salmond said: "Independence is obviously closer than it's ever been but it's not about the opinion polls.

"What's happening is in the streets, the communities, the church halls, the village halls around Scotland."
