Weight-lifter banished from Glasgow Games

31 July 2014 Last updated at 20:46 BST

An Australian weightlifter who admitted head-butting another competitor in the Commonwealth Games has been ordered to pay his victim £400 compensation.

Francois Etoundi assaulted Welsh weightlifter Gareth Evans and broke his nose at the Athletes' Village on Wednesday.

The 29-year-old had won bronze in the weightlifting 77kg category on Sunday. It appears the problem arose after Mr Evans' girlfriend hugged him.

Etoundi will keep his medal but has lost his Games accreditation so cannot take part in the closing ceremony.

BBC Scotland's Catriona Renton reports.
