Scottish independence: What are the European elections about?

7 April 2014 Last updated at 18:01 BST

Citizens in EU member states will have the opportunity to elect members of the European Parliament on 22 May.

The vote is entangled with the debate over Scottish independence and the question of whether Britain should withdraw from the European Union.

BBC Scotland political editor Brian Taylor has been to Brussels to try to tease out the strands.
