28 January 2014 Last updated at 14:38 GMT

Up Helly Aa, the biggest event in Shetland's long dark winter, has begun.

About 1,000 men will parade through the streets of Lerwick before burning a replica Viking longship.

Hundreds of visitors have arrived in the islands for the event.

BBC Scotland's John Johnston reports from the fire festival in the Shetland Islands.
