A gritter slid off the road in the Scottish Borders due to icy conditions on the region's roads.

The incident happened on the B709 Heriot to Innerleithen road on Monday morning.

A spokesman for Scottish Borders Council said the vehicle was pulled back onto the road by a JCB and no damage or injuries had been reported.

A Met Office warning of further icy conditions is in place for parts of the Borders on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, in Dumfries and Galloway, the A701 road between Moffat and Dumfries was shut for a time due to the large amount of surface water lying in the area.

Heavy rainfall affected Dumfries and Galloway for much of the day.

Shortly after 14:00, Police Scotland said the road was being closed at Hidden Corner, just south of Moffat.

It had reopened by late in the afternoon.
